INTRODUCING
LYONS singer, songwriter, guitarist
Michael T. Lyons Jr. - Born in Miami, Florida, USA
Michael T. Lyons Jr. was only five years old when he started to express an interest in music. At the time the Lyons cub only had one wish. He wanted a violin. It took three years for
his wish to come true. By then, the young Lyons was already into sports. This led to a one year violin versus football war. Football won.
But his love for music did not die there. A few years later Lyons set his sights on the piano. His interest waned after a few months. He then discovered, chose and
committed to the Spanish guitar. His passion for guitars did not stop there. Lyons proceeded to the electric guitar. Now he was hooked. Lyons had finally uncovered and
unleashed his talent.
It took four years of hard work, practice and persistence before Lyons formed "Gunnar's
Revenge"; his first rock n' roll band. The band had a natural ability to bring out the audience's
party spirit. While the band had fun on stage the crowd went wild. They played everywhere. Local clubs, street parties, beach parties, skate board ramp parties, frat parties, etc..
At this time Lyons' original songs were also in the works.
The end of a brief stay at college brought the end of "Gunnar's Revenge". Band members went their separate ways. But this did not deter Lyons. He was repeatedly invited to sit
in with and join numerous bands. Lyons took advantage of this phase and focused on writing and recording his originals.
A productive period followed. He teamed up with friend and producer Tom Manos. They began to lay down the tracks for Lyons' debut album. Much to Lyons, surprise Kimba
on 94.9 Zeta Local Shot unexpectedly aired a demo version of one of Lyons' originals entitled "Going Blind". This further fueled his inspiration, passion and determination.
He joined Walrus; a rock n' roll cover band. Lyons was back on the scene and his stage presence spoke for itself. Bars and events were packed with his local following.
People danced. The crowd drank. Women flashed every part of their body at him. It didn't stop there. At one of his performances at Hooligans, Lyons pulled one of the great
Jimi stunts out of the bag. While taking a lead he lifted his guitar, placed it behind his head and kept on playing. The crowd was brought to it's feet. Lyons received a
standing ovation.
Different goals and different dreams inevitably led to the disintegration of the band. Slowly but surely "Walrus" died. Lyons however lived on. He completed his debut album
"Thank God for Music" and officially released it in June 1998. Not only had the CD - which had been sent out to publications to test the water a year earlier - received a great
review in Rag Magazine, it was now being welcomed by rock and music lovers. "The album sells itself" Louis. The sentimental twist on some of the lyrics even drew in the pop
fans. A survey showed a pretty even spread of song popularity when testing for the album favorite. Lyons was making his mark. He had even earned the nick name "the
transfusion"; new blood in the everlasting classic rock vein.
By September 1998, Lyons' single entitled "Going Blind" reached college radio stations nationally. Much
to the delight of his fans on the 19th of the same month LYONS -
the original act - was born. Lights, color, sound, action! His debut concert was spectacular. He was joined on stage by special guests Bobby Thomas Jr. on drums and Felix
Pastorius on bass. George Rizov, a former sheet music writer for Warner Bros., was featured on keyboard. Dorian Vaz the novelty from Venezuela on guitar and Christina
D. Villaverde, a rising star in the opera world, performed back up vocals. It was an invigorating journey through Lyons' much loved spell binding tunes. "It's the best local
act in Miami" Tom Pasawicz. "A show that knocks your socks off" Cos. "He was just great, great." Yvonne. "Great Show" EE. His fans went on and on ...
And the party wasn't over. Lyons appeared at the Coconut Grove Banyan Festival in November and at a fund raiser for Hepatitis in December. In January of
1999 Lyons opened the Taste of the
Grove Festival. He spent the next few months performing locally; Bayside, Fête de la Musique and so on. Slowly but surely he
was building a fan base and a reputation. "A bullet on guitar." E. K., Chicago. "Natural progression and evolution to a wizard - a true star." Gerard Salmon,
New York. "A sex symbol." Roma Anderson, Miami Beach.
In July of the same year, Lyons made his first international appearance in Villajoyosa, Spain. September 2000 saw a second international appearance in Amsterdam, Holland. And the show isn't over yet. Lyons continues to perform passionately on a regular basis.
